A Reminder During Finals

You have a much larger purpose.

A Reminder During Finals

As you're in the midst of studying and stressing, taking finals and worrying about your GPA, I would like you to take a step back and be reminded of something. I know it may come as a surprise since these tests and grades have taken up all of your focus for the last few weeks, but this is true:

Your purpose on earth is not to have a 4.0 GPA, not to get into medical school, not to pass all of your finals.

Shocker, I know. You see, God has us here on Earth to fulfill a purpose much larger and mightier than we have in mind. I feel like the world puts so much pressure on us to get these great grades and GPA's and be involved and stay on top of things and do everything right and it's getting to be too much. So I just wanted to take a second to say, remember you are much more than a grade. Much more than school.

God created us for one purpose and that is to be a prophet of His and make disciples. Doesn't that sound pretty important? He sees us great enough to spread the Word of His glory. God sees you as much more than you give yourself credit for. God gives us many reminders throughout His scripture, too:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” -Jeremiah 1:5

Yep, before you were even accepted into your university, God already had a purpose for you. He saw you as unique. He appointed you as a prophet. And this purpose is not something we should take lightly.

"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." -Ephesians 2:10

The handiwork of God, He trusts us and wants us so much that we are given the privilege to be the hands of the Lord. If He wanted to, God could do all of this on His own, He doesn't need us. But what a treat it is that He gives us the opportunity to walk alongside Him and do good works for His glory.

"Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails." -Proverbs 19:21

So you plan on graduating college, going to another school or getting a job, making money, and so on. We can make all of the plans that we want, but it is God's plan that is mightier than them all. No matter what we do and where we go, it is the purpose of the Lord that will triumph over all the things that we do. Because it is the purpose of the Lord that is going to give us life.

So, friends, I want you to work hard and continue studying hard for your finals. But I also want you to remember that this is not everything, and there is much more to your life than a grade on a test. At the end of this, everything will work out exactly how it is supposed to. You will make it through.

Remember your bigger purpose. Remember you were made to be a disciple and show people who God is. Whether that is telling someone the Gospel, praying, or just showing the joy of the Lord, do it. This is the will God wants for you. Take peace in that today.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
