In light of the recent gun related tragedies, I feel that it is important to take a step away from the debates and remember those who have passed away under some of the most brutal circumstances. I am turning 21 this year and my age group has witnessed more mass shootings than any other living generation has in their youth. We have grown up in a world that is not only unsafe, but consistently and heartbreakingly mournful.

This article isn't about defending or pointing out the flaws of each gun control-related side. It's about the human side of the issue. In all honesty, I am not sure what the best solution to this seemingly never ending cycle is, but I do know that no matter what law or amendment you are in favor of, at the end of the day we are all human beings and we come together to grieve the loss of innocent lives.

We all want to be safe.

We all want to know that our loved ones are safe.

We all want to see an end to the senseless loss of lives - people who we may not know personally, but whose faces remain ingrained in our minds and hearts.

Below is a list of 10 major gun massacres. To every life that was lost in the events listed, as well as those not listed, we will forever honor and never forget you. To the families who have experienced one of the most difficult things in life, we mourn with you and pray for a world where lives will not be lost in this way.

Columbine High School, April 1999 - Two teenage boys shot and killed 12 schoolmates and a teacher before taking their own lives.

Virginia Tech, April 2007- Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people and wounded 17 before taking his own life.

Binghamton, New York, April 2009 - Jiverly Voong shot and killed 13 and seriously wounded four others at the American Civic Assn., an immigration services center.

Fort Hood, Texas, November 2009 - Major Nidal Malik Hasan killed 13 people and injured 32.

Tuscon Arizona, January 2011 - Jared Lee Loughner shoots Arizona representative Gabrielle Giffords, kills six and leaves 11 wounded.

Aurora, Colorado, July 2012 - James Holmes killed 12 and wounded 58 in a shooting during the midnight premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises."

Oak Creek, Wisconsin, August 2012 - Wade Michael Page shot and killed six people inside a Sikh temple.

Sandy Hook Elementary School, December 2012 - Adam Lanza forced his way into the school and killed 20 first graders and six adults.

Charleston, South Carolina, June 2015 - Dylann Roof killed nine people inside a historic black church in Charleston.

Pulse Orlando Nightclub, June 2016 - Omar Mateen shot and killed 49 and left 50 wounded.

May all the victims rest peacefully and remain with us always.

* Please note that these tragic shootings affect us all. They occur in all states, to all religions and to all ages*

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
