The holiday season is among us. Some people are thinking about what to get everyone for Christmas, all of the parties that they are going to attend, what they are going to make at Christmas dinner, you know, all the fun stuff. However, there is one main thing this season that people sometimes forget.
Whether you are religious or not, you should remember the importance of giving this holiday season. There are people that don't have a lot of the stuff that some of us are lucky to have and I feel like people are forgetting about that.
Charlie Brown said it best, "Christmas is becoming too commercial." Everyone is looking for the latest toys, malls are crowded with people swiping their credit cards, we often end up forgetting about what Christmas really means.
Christmas, to me, is a time of giving. It is time to spread joy to those who need it the most, there are so many families out there that can't afford to give their children the Christmas they deserve. How do you tell a child that they can't always get what they want for Christmas because their father was laid off?
Imagine living in a poor country where a child has never even gotten a Christmas present or has never got to experience a childhood because of living in a war-torn country.
Please keep in mind that there are charities that can help out those families make sure you pick the best one out there! I did Operation Christmas Child this year, which gave a box full of stuff to a child in a third world country and I will absolutely do it again next year!
I feel like people often forget what Christmas is about, it's not just about the birth of Jesus.
It's also about being kind to one another.
Remember that scene in "A Charlie Brown Christmas" where everyone really wanted the biggest Christmas tree? Charlie Brown got the tree that just needed a little love, and everyone was hating on it. Charlie went home to decorate the tree and when he couldn't, he felt down then the Peanuts gang came by and decorated the tree. Linus said that the tree just needed a little love.
I feel like the tree is a symbol of the holiday season because much like that poor little tree everyone needs love this holiday season. No one deserves to be unhappy for the holidays. I can imagine that would really put things into perspective for everyone the next time you aren't happy with what you got, think about all the people in the world who don't have anything.
