Remembering 9/11

And the iconic missing flag

Remembering 9/11

As many of you know, the attacks on The World Trade center happened fifteen years ago. However, many of your don't know. Freshmen in highschool now are the first grade learning about the 9/11 attacks as a history event that they weren't alive for. This was a historic tragedy that occurred to our nation, something that we will never forget. It forever changed the lives of many and changed the way America works. We no longer can go to Canada for a fun day trip or just hop on a plane in a short amount of time. You need passports and at least an hour before your flight in order to go through checks.

Life will never be the same for those affected in the attacks. Family and friends who lost loved ones who were working that day or just walking down the street. The firefighters and police men and women who went in to help those that day, will forever be affected by what they saw and how they responded.

Everyone will think of and remember that day differently. I was four years old so I don't remember much. But I remember how upset my family was and I knew something was wrong. My parents will think of it differently than I will. You probably remember it differently than I do. Everyone has their own account and thoughts of the attack of The Twin Towers.

Obviously, the main point of the attacks were to break down America, to make us feel desperate and alone and defeated. However, one of the most iconic and cherished moments after these attacks was the firefighters putting up the American flag. On top of all of the debris and all of the suffering, they still made sure our American flag was waving with pride. Yes, it affected us in ways that will forever be engraved in our hearts, but we did not let it falter our pride in America. When the flag went up even on that awful day, we wanted to show the world that we were The United States of America and nothing could break our bond.

However, after that photo was taken and everything happened, the flag disappeared. It has been missing for fifteen years. However, two years ago a mystery man returned it to a fire station. He said he was a Marine who received it as a gift from a widow of a victim of the attacks. Since that moment, scientists and investigators have been looking over the flag to see if it was the correct one. They found that the debri and dust matched that found on the scene. This confirmed that this flag was the one in the famous photo, after being lost for fifteen years.

This iconic flag was placed at the One World Trade Center site on Thursday, September 8, 2016 in memory of this tragic event.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
