Remember To Be Thankful All Year Round

Thankfulness should last longer than the holiday season.

We often find ourselves being the most thankful around the holiday season, but we forget to keep this thankfulness in mind throughout the rest of the year. This mindset is one that should remain constant, not come and go as the seasons change and the holidays pass by. Many times we take things and individuals for granted and do not always appreciate what we have until it's too late.

As this holiday season approaches, we see our social media feeds filled with posts from one person to another about how thankful they are for each other, but these types of posts are absent during the remainder of the year. We use these holidays to remind ourselves who and what we are thankful for instead of reminding ourselves every single day how blessed we truly are to have these people and things in our lives. Rather than making grand gestures of appreciation once a year, we should cherish what we have and show our appreciation with the little things such as thanking family and friends who are always there to support us and even going a little bit out of our ways to show how much we care about those individuals that we truly cherish in life.

Let's start showing our appreciation by acknowledging the good rather than the bad. Don't wait for a holiday to show your loved ones how much you truly care about them. Every day should be about giving thanks, not just one day or season. Don't allow yourself to neglect the ones you love and the things you care about and always remember to appreciate all that you have instead of focusing on what you do not have.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
