4 Things to Remember During the Holidays

Here's a list of reminders, to make the most of your time spent with those you love.

1. Express your gratefulness

Whether it is saying "thank you" and showing interest in a gift you receive, thanking the family member who is hosting or cooking, or even just telling your family and friends how glad you are to see them and celebrate with them, make sure everyone knows how thankful you are for the celebration and festivities. We tend to not say these things enough, and the expressed gratitude will surely add to the positivity of the celebration.

2. Be present

Unplug for a few hours, join a conversation, and stay present in the time you have with those you love the most. It's one of the few times of the year where everyone is home at the same time, and celebrating together, so don't spend the whole break and holiday wishing it away or stuck in your phone. Chances are your phone, your school, your job, etc., will all still be there in 2019, but you never know how many more holidays you'll get to celebrate with certain members of your family, and with the changes each of us endure every year, is it really worth it wasting this one on the not so important, constant things in our lives?

3. Take time to reflect

Be sure to take time to reflect on holidays and years past. Reflect on the year and all it's brought you as it winds to it's end. Without comparing yourself or situation to year's past, focus on the positive changes and growth the present year has brought you. Reflect on your favorite memories with loved ones who may not be there this year, and know that with each year comes new challenges, strengths and growth. Give your family and yourself some credit and self love while enjoying the present, growing and remebering your past.

4. Enjoy yourself and spread love

Use the holidays as a time to relax within the craziness, and find beauty in the busy and not so busy moments alike. Be sure to tell those you love how you feel, cherish every moment, and get ready to start fresh in the upcoming year. The

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving.
