Remember The Last Time We Agreed?
Take the Square

I am not very educated about politics. I have not researched a lot about the violence around the United States. I cannot recite gun laws off of the top of my head. I can tell you, however, that there is a problem. There is a problem within our country that allows these topics to be very relevant in our society. It is hard to talk about these things, because I do not know when we will see the day where these problems are solved.

That upsets me. As an American, I am given the right to express my voice and vote. As amazing as that is, when is that going to start helping all of the problems our country has been having as of lately? Even with the luxuries such as voting, I am left frustrated. I am not sure I trust that the government will make the changes that America needs to see. Not without a fight, anyway.

As an average person, it is hard to believe that all parts of the government are working together to discuss issues and come up with solutions. They side with others based on their political parties, not with an individual because they have an idea worth listening to. To me, that is pathetic. Shouldn’t politicians be more concerned about representing the people who voted for them instead of staying faithful to their parties?

One of our biggest issues is that America is made up of stubborn people who admit that there are problems but resist change and can hardly consider other opinions. People need to come together now more than ever. At this point, who cares whose opinions are right? It is about fixing what is broken now, and there are many issues that may shatter into disasters.

Gun violence needs to be addressed, terrorism needs to be stopped, and racism needs to become a thing of the past. These are a few topics among a list of many that are tearing America apart slowly, whether we want to admit it or not. I have no idea how to fix any of this, but I am confident that there are some very highly qualified people out there who can get the job done.

I am looking to the government to work on these issues. Politicians need to become less stubborn and stop caring about impressing their parties. It is time the people who voted them into office are represented. We need to mend our broken parts, because our country is at risk for some very rough times. People always have someone to blame for these problems, and to an extent everyone is at fault. Average people need to become less stubborn as well; we cannot expect the government to fix this alone. Let’s stop the Facebook debates about who is innocent and who is guilty. If America wants to continue to be the best country in the world, we are going to have to work for the title. Everyone needs to work together to stop all of the outrage we see on the news every day. Maybe once we all work together we will be able to agree or at least compromise. From there, I hope we see the change we need and overdue peace follows.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
