Christmas is a time of year where everyone seems to go above and beyond for others, even if they don't want to. You buy gifts for the uncle you see once a year, you let others go in front of you in line, and you even donate your spare change to the Salvation Army bell ringers outside the grocery store. It's often said to be the season of giving, the happiest time of the year and I just want to know why we can't make all year this way?
Christmas time is filled with joy, love, happiness and generosity. We spend hours upon hours shopping for the perfect present, we donate our time to those who aren't as fortunate and we catch up with family we haven't seen in a year. Everyone seems to always have this extra glow about them when the trees come out and the snow begins to fall, but why? Is it because these things remind us of a season where we give and receive presents, or is it because of the real reason for the season?
The Christmas season is meant to be focused on the birth of Jesus Christ, celebrating His welcome into this world and all He blessed us with. Instead, people have made it into a holiday where everything is focused around giving the perfect gift and receiving the best one as well. So why don't we just take a step back and remember why we are truly celebrating the holiday, remember how blessed we are and how fortunate we are to have everything we do. Take the holidays to give to those who aren't as blessed and fortunate and remember that the entire year can be made into the best time of the year if we allow it to be.
