It can be kind of hard to remember the truths of the world. I'm one of those people who typically believes stuff pretty easily. Haha, I know...not the best tactic.
This week, I asked my boyfriend if he had heard what happened to Kim K in Paris. My boyfriend quickly reminded me that I can't believe everything I read and that it could be a PR stunt; however, I was sold.
Anyways, who else agrees that our hearts can get confused on what daily reminders we need to make it through. For me, when the clarity of following Jesus gets a little hazy, I make a list of few foundational truths I know about our God.
The core of what we know is that God has not changed. He remains.
We have walked away, He has stayed. We have broken our words; He has kept His promises. He said He would be there; we fail to show up.
In the midst of our fickle pursuit of God, He has been our loyal groom that has been waiting at the alter this whole time. (insert praise hands emoji here.)
Now that we know His heart is consistent, let’s look at a few characteristics that make up the heart of God.
He is awesome.
Not like, "Oh, that new flavor of goldfish is was awesome," but like "Whoa, God is seriously the coolest, most mind-blowing thing ever."
"You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people." -Psalm 68:35
He is merciful.
Gosh, how many times in my own life have I gone against what God had intended or chose a different path. Each time I do that, He responds with forgiveness and grace.
“He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy...”
– Titus 3:5
He is faithful.
God always does what He says He is going to do. Even if we are faithless, He remains faithful.
“The LORD'S loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22
He is wise.
Even when we think we know best, I’m so glad that the Lord swoops in and takes charge.
“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” – James 3:17
He is loving.
His love is abundant, overflowing, outrageous and out of control. It can't be limited towards us. He is always doing what is best for our lives and what will Glorify Him the most. I think Justin Bieber took the chorus of Let Me Love You originally from what God is singing to us.
“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
-Zephaniah 3:17
My biggest hope is that we can fall into these truths when we are faced with our everyday problems. I hope this can leave us in awe of who God is and draw us closer to Him.
