43 Things You Miss About ColorGuard

if you were in colorguard at any point in your high school career...it doesn't matter if you graduated yesterday or years ago... I am sure you miss these 43 things as well.

1. The money spent on hair products and makeup.

2. The inside jokes.

you seriously had to be there because you will not find it funny otherwise.

3. Stretch block.

aka: gossip block

4. The crazy makeup.

5. FRIED OREOS!

6. Band Camp.

I know call me crazy, but yes I even miss band camp.

7. Awkward tan lines.

Glove and sock lines were all the rage *eye roll*

8. That one girl who practically dated every dude on the drumline... or at least tried too.

9. The girl who ALWAYS got hurt.

10. The girl who ALWAYS wanted to start some drama.

yes I even miss all these crazies.

11. The people in general.

I still love all my guard peps

12. The uniforms.

some years were super cute, others we looked like hobos...... but we looked like hobos together and that's all that really counts

13. The stories about said uniforms.

like that one hypothetical story about the all white costume and that girl who started her period in it... and having to spray paint the uniform before a competition... true story.

14. The stories in general.

there are so many stories that start with "one time, when I was in colorguard.."

15. The long days and nights spent with some of my favorite people.

16. The stupid parades we always complained about.

17. Meeting other guards.

I guess we were just relieved when we met other people who were nerds like us.

18. Anticipation for next years show theme.

is it going to be weird? original? tacky?

19. Marching the cadence into the stadium.

admit it... you felt like you owned the place. powerful.

20. Marching onto the field for competition and hearing all those corny shoutouts.

deep down you secretly loved these and always listened for your name.

21. Getting the beat of the metronome stuck in your head.

22. Getting the show music stuck in your head.

23. The pep talks before upperstate and state that made you cry.

and then your coach telling you not to cry because you will mess up your show makeup.

24. Coming back to school at 1:30 in the morning being super sleepy and still having to unload props and instruments.

these people literally saw you at your worst. when your hair was a big ball of hairspray and bobby pins, show makeup half on/half off, side of your face red from sleeping on the way home. it's all fun and games until the bus light comes on and you come to the realization of how you look.

25. winning.

obviously... you miss the feeling when you got first. you miss feeling accomplished and that all your hard work has paid off.

26. Surprisingly you miss losing also.

because that means next week at practice you have something to achieve and it will make you work so much harder. it also taught you a lesson about earning things instead of just being given things.

27. You miss the multiple times that the band did okay and the colorguard winning best overall.

you had something to hold over the rest of the bands heads.

28. The terrifying yet utter joy you feel when learning a new toss.

29. The pain, bruises, and possible broken bones that came along with learning a new toss.

30. Complete satisfaction from finally learning that said toss.

31. The bus rides.

there was always a mix of excitement and hairspray in the air.

32. Pre-game.

you perfected the art of standing completely still while all of your non-band friends would stand in the bleachers and try to get you to laugh.

33." If your early you're on time, if you're on time you're late"

34. Sip-n-go's.

the only time you were allowed to get water.

35. Telling off anyone who tried to say that cheerleaders were better.

36. Push ups.

you miss the good ole days when a set of 10 push ups could make any mistake go away.

37.The shoes that were actually just a waste of money.

those shoes were the most uncomfortable shoes and they never kept your feet dry.

38. Third quarter!

that was literally the only time you got to hang out with your non-band friends.

39. Having to re-due the whole set for the 50th time.

40. The crazy props.

my "tree solo" was legendary.

41. The whole stadium falling silent to watch a band perform.

42. C-Guard Kicks *slaps butt*

our famous huddle mantra

43. Rifle gloves that seriously needed to washed once a week because they stunk super bad.

44. You literally miss everything from the sport you loved!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
