It is Memorial Day and you are ready to enjoy some great barbeque. It is always a great time enjoying the summer weather and family. However in all of the festivities it is easy to lose site of the real meaning of this holiday.
Memorial day was founded to remember our fallen soliders that fought so hard to keep our country safe. On this day it is important we remember the families that were effected through the great service to our soliders.
So here is a letter to them where memorial day is a true day of rememberance.
Thank you so much. I realize that today means more to you than what most assume. It is more than the national anthem or the pledge of alligence. You personal knew someone that lived these standards with pride. That is something not everyone has the strength to do. Your loved one is why we are able to enjoy the freedoms that we have in our great country. They fought for us willingly which is something that I am eternally grateful for. Throughout this day it is easy to get wrapped up in all of the events and festivities that happen throughout the day. However we have not forgotten the sacrifice that was made. As an American the freedoms that we have it is easy to feel that they have always been set in place, but what we have we can not take for granted. It came at a price one that we can not forget.
If your family has not been affected don't forget to comfort those that have. An easy way is through cards and gifts. This is a gesture that you truly care. It is always the thought that counts and this is the first step to truly being there for people that are constantly adjusting through the ebbs and flows of life. Another easy way is through flowers. On tough days a nice set of flowers can truly brighten someone's day. Lastly just being there for them. I know that seems simple and obvious but it helps so much. During tough times of lost support from friends can truly help getting use to the changes of an unfortunate circumstance. Hugs , smiles, and being available can give those strength who really need it.
So as you enjoy your day, remember all of the strong and caring soldiers that made it possible for you. Say a prayer for those that are going through this day with a heavy heart, not only the families of the soldiers, but also their fellow soldiers that fought along side of them. The bond between them is something that will never be broken. The legacy of our fallen soldiers is something will never be forgotten and will live through us and the freedoms that we exercise daily.
Have a great Memorial Day!!
