It's no secret that the past couple years have leaned on nostalgia when it comes to movies, TV shows, and even music. We're seeing bands get back together, shows rebooted, and live action movies of Disney moves we used to sing along to when we were kids.
For the sake of this article, we'll call it a movement (even if it's something that has happened plenty of times before). Arguably, there hasn't been a wave of 'rebooting' this big for a long time. Along with the movement come strong opinions and it's pretty black and white. The general public either hates it or loves it.
The former hate it for a few reasons but some of the most I've stumbled over argue that there's no point in recreating something when there's nothing wrong with how it was. Why take a movie and do it over with the chance that it ruins the franchise? Why bring a band back together at the possibility that it ruins their image?
Others can argue that bringing back shows or movies show a lack of originality. We are, after all, in the present. What's the point in going back in time?
Well, there's plenty of reason to go back.
The media we grew up on is timeless. The fear of it being ruined is something to think about, but what if that doesn't happen? What if they make that live action adaption and it only compliments the original?
Going back to what we adored growing up brings back that childhood happiness. When you're sitting in the movie theater watching your favorite Disney princess in a live view, you look for the little things. You look at the details and it makes you feel good. In a world where we seem to be surrounded by chaos, is that so bad?
So, let's say you're wondering even more what the point is of going back...it's reintroducing something timeless to the children now. When I went to see Beauty and the Beast, there were just as many people that were my age and older that were excited as ever. Some of them had kids with them that were ecstatic. It gives them something to look forward too.
As for bands? Well, like the Jonas Brother getting back together, there's only the future to look forward to. Sometimes things that were great have the potential to be even better.
