Should businesses be allowed to deny people business if it conflicts with their religious beliefs?
Recently this has been a hot topic in our society because it is so easy to debate. Yes, people should all be treated equally but all yes, people should be allowed to deny people business because it is their business and their choice as to what and whom they want to serve.
The main topic being discussed is the LGBT's marriages. The fact that some people will not marry gays or others but this is not all that this is about. Religious freedom of denial can be of all religions and in all circumstances not just Christianity vs. LGBTs.
In contrast, people do not consider what they are proposing when they go to a minister to be married. If taken into another perspective this could be like going to a Muslim bakery asking for them to cater for you and provide bacon at this catering. This just sounds like nonsense, no one would ask a Muslim bakery or restaurant to provide bacon because you know that spiritually they do not believe in the consumption of pork.
Therefore, if you are calling Christians out for being discriminatory then look into all of the other religions. This is not a one-sided argument it is put out to be.
Whether the company wants to not serve someone is their choice if it is against their beliefs. Yes, this may not be nice or fair but it is their business and if you want a cake for your wedding there are many other places you can go. There are many other people you can be married by.
The same issue has arisen with Catholic Church and religious health-care workers. There was a lawsuit against United States Conference of Catholics Bishops, from Tamesha Means, who claimed the Catholic hospital Mercy Health Partners should have been required to provide her with an abortion when she was in the process of miscarrying. The case was dismissed and the ACLU lost the suit.
Both sides can be supported and arguments can easily be formed. Whether you think it is religious freedom or discrimination is your opinion.
-Think about all aspects of religious freedom!
-Don't be bias!
-Stand up for what you believe in!
Where do you stand?
