I'll still never forget Election Night 2016. I stayed up for almost the entire night, constantly flipping from news station to news station. For most of the time, it was a tight race to see which presidential candidate would get the 270 electoral votes needed to win the election. Donald Trump would be in the lead at times. Then it would be Hillary Clinton. Then it would be Trump again. And again, Clinton would re-take the lead. Around midnight, I decided that enough was enough by turning the volume down on my TV and going to bed. I woke up about an hour later, and that's when I heard the news that Trump would be the 45th President of the United States.
At first, I was very much in shock. Who knew that the same man who hosted "The Apprentice" and helped Kevin McCallister find his way around the Plaza Hotel would become the next leader of the free world? It was very much unfathomable for me. Then I thought about Hillary Clinton's supporters crying their eyes out as they watched her lose the election. And that's when an inspirational thought popped up in the back of my mind.
God is still in control.
There are lots of times where we put all of our faith into things that just provide temporary happiness. For me, I get a great kick out of watching SEC football. When LSU wins, I'm in a very good mood, and when they lose, I am not. I think that I can speak for all of us. But we have to get our priorities more in check. Putting our faith in LSU football and presidential elections provides temporary happiness, but putting our faith in Jesus Christ, the One who paid it all, provides happiness that lasts for an entire lifetime. When our relationship with our Heavenly Father is our top priority, He truly does become the Lord of all.
There will be multiple times where Donald Trump fails in leading this country the right way. I actually hope that he succeeds more times than he fails. But what's so great about my God is that He will never fail this country and His children. He will do everything in His power to keep us from being abandoned and lost. He will always be a good, good Father, and He will always be in control.
