One of the biggest pet peeves: the pitiful expression on someone's face when hearing somebody else is single.
It's a shame after so many years of social progression, it is still looked down upon by some to be single. People have this idea in their head that in order to be happy and established, you must need a significant other. As if without a boyfriend or girlfriend you are, for some reason, incomplete.
It's a sad thought that we cannot feel complete with only ourselves. Of course, that isn't the realistic case. In fact, we can be just as happy alone than with a significant other. We can be just as established alone than with a significant other. We can feel just as completely alone than with a significant other.
Yes, love is a significant part of our lives as well. We hear stories about falling in love and we become enchanted with the idea, so much that we envy those who can tell their stories of love. Unfortunately, as much as we idealize having another person to love, we can live without a significant other for as long as we choose to.
Some individuals do not want a relationship in their teens or in their young adult years. Perhaps it is because they are in school and want to focus on academics before relationships, or whatever the reason may be they are currently not looking. Though, in a generation that is constantly looking for love, attention, and affection, it can be hard not to be judged when you do not have the same priorities.
In essence, there should not be a stigmatized judgment around not having a significant other because a significant other does not define who you are! Being in a relationship is not a personality trait or will fill a missing piece in you. Others can help you feel complete, but in the end, it is all you, the individual, who will be the cause of your own completeness and happiness!
You do you, and live the life you want, free of judgment!
