It is coming up to my boyfriend and my's one year anniversary. The year moved fast, faster than we actually realized. We've been on so many adventures, ate so much food (we like to cook together) and have seen a countless number of movies.
All of this really started with a ring.
My boyfriend and I knew each other before we started dating. I would not say we were super close friends, but we knew each other existed because we were both in the Anime Club on our campus. Over the summer of 2017, I came back down to my apartment to check on some things (I travel to my parents in the summer to work). Some friends were planning a birthday party for someone and invited me.
He happened to be there. We bonded over Steven Universe and he kept showing me different videos. At one point he started playing with my ring. It happens to be a D20 dice ring that spins. It was that moment that I thought of what would happen if I pursued him. He messed with that ring throughout the night until I left around three in the morning.
After I returned home to my parents, I thought about it and sent a message to see if he would return it. Luckily, a new Steven Universe episode came out and could use that as an excuse. Sure enough, he returned it. From there, we messaged back and forth for some time and at some point, we started dating.
Neither of us knows when we started dating, just that it is most likely towards the end of July/beginning of August. We never officially asked each other to be official. It just...happened. It was a natural transition for us to move towards.
I was actually not looking for a relationship at the time. And I honestly think some of the best relationships occur when you are not looking. Stop stressing over when you will find your next boyfriend, girlfriend, partner. Discover yourself, learn what makes you happy, upset, what you love, what you hate. At that point, you will find someone who clicks with you.
