We can relate to the Bible and it is not outdated. Many people will say " Oh God can't expect me to follow those rules in today's society" or "This book was written two thousand and sixteen years ago, it doesn't apply to me now." But the truth is, it does. I find myself identifying with Adam and Eve, Noah, Jonah, David, Sarah and Abraham.
Abraham and Sarah’s story in Genesis 15-17 has a powerful message. God provided for them after a process of disobedience and impatience. Through this process God came out having Abraham put all his faith and trust in him. Through the chapters in Genesis, we are able to identify and learn things about God, and how he spoke to and through Abraham throughout a tough journey. Although God could have given up on Abraham and not continued to push him, God was sovereign and patiently waited on Abraham to be obedient. I can identify with Abraham here when I feel like God should give up on me, but he never does. God is portrayed in Genesis as all-knowing, forgiving, providing and testing, and these varying images of God that we see throughout Abraham’s story can be related back to our personal relationship with God. Failing God, but him remaining faithful.
Just in Genesis we see God is all-knowing, forgiving, providing and testing.
Despite Abraham and Sarah’s impatience, God was all-knowing and had a plan for their future. Abraham and Sarah were impatient when it came to having a son. Sarah was older and unable to have a child so the want and need for something got in the way of trusting God’s perfect timing. God’s perfect timing can not be expressed into words nor grasped by the human mind. It initially blows my mind that the creator knows my every step before I take it, and knows how many hairs are on my head, but I’m so thankful he is all-knowing and knows the best for my future. Many times in my life, I try to plan out my future and figure it out on my own. Once a situation rocks my world, I step back and realize I was doing my own plans instead of God’s. Therefore, I can relate to Abraham and Sarah’s story. They knew they wanted a son, so they went for it, going down their own road instead of God’s perfect one. We serve a holy and just God.
God is all-knowing. I’m thankful I don’t have to worry about my plans because the Lord has them figured out for me.
