You know how this generation often looks at a picture or video of someone screaming and says, without hesitation, "Same"? There's something about breakdowns that we can all relate to, at one time or another. Here's five cinematic psychotic breakdowns that will make your own unique insanity feel a little more sane:
1. "The Parent Trap" - Elizabeth James about to meet Nick Parker after 11 years.
Have you ever absolutely thrown a fit while getting ready simply because you couldn't find a suitable outfit for what you're going through? And then seriously considered not leaving the house at all in order to avoid life in general? Yeah, we've all been there. We feel you, Elizabeth.
2. "Easy A" - Olive impulsively revamping her entire wardrobe.
This is the moment where you're so fed up with how your life is going that you decide entirely changing your outward appearance will change the direction of your life. It's the reason girls drastically change their hair after a break-up. Most of us don't go as far as Olive, but we can all admit that we've been tempted to at one time or another.
3. "500 Days of Summer" - Tom shattering plates following a heart shattering moment.
Tom is the human embodiment of when you're so done with the world that consequences don't exist anymore. This state of no remorse makes for some very fascinating and very destructive breakdowns. Highly recommended.
4. "Legally Blonde" - Elle Woods and the really awful, no-good breakup.
"People can surprise you" has both a good meaning and a bad meaning. For Elle Woods, it unfortunately has a bad meaning. And yet, this sentiment can refer back to yourself too. How you handle crisis might just surprise you. It clearly surprised Elle.
5. "It's Kind of a Funny Story" - Craig, calmly stating he wants to die.
In the moment immediately following this statement, the nurse hands Craig a form and says, "Fill this out." Personally, this is my favorite kind of breakdown. It's a person coming to terms with the fact that their entire life is out of control, and handling it in a direct, blunt fashion. It's "kind of funny" and definitely relatable.
