Do you have a dream company to intern at, but think your resume isn’t impressive enough? Or a cute person in your class who you want to talk to, but you’re too scared of rejection? How about a class you want to take that you know fills up at rapid speed?
If you have a dream, whether it’s one as little as a class you want to take or as major as a company you’d give anything to work with I’m here to tell you: go for it!
Yes, rejection sucks, but it’s literally the worst-case scenario! I know it’s cliché, but when one door closes another one truly does open, even if it’s to teach us a lesson.
If your first application for an internship doesn’t work out, it doesn’t mean you’ll never get one, or that you’re on the company’s “never hire” list. You’ll just have to try harder next time because what’s for you will not pass you. You might even get an internship somewhere else that will remind you how much you wanted the other company. Or, maybe you won’t even miss your “dream company” because where you are right now has become your new dream.
That cute guy or girl might say no to your date, but it doesn’t mean they’re going to tell the whole world you’re a creep or bash and mock you to their friends. And besides, if they can’t see the great person you are and turn you down, just know one day there will be someone who’s dreaming of you. Someone may be too scared to ask you out at this very moment! Crazy, huh?!
My point here is: rejections will always come your way. But hey, no one goes through life accepted everywhere they go. It’s just not possible. Everyone has their niche in this big crazy world, but you can’t find your niche without finding out where it isn’t. So, take your wins with pride, and your losses not with sadness, but with new wisdom and more drive to reach your dreams.
