Registration: As Told By "Parks And Rec"

All college students hate it, but "Parks and Rec" makes it bearable

Registration: As Told By "Parks And Rec"

Everyone has to do it, but college registration is still the worst. And it's that time of the year, college students. It's time for us to wake up at ungodly hours and battle it out to get into that hotly contested 10:45 a.m. chemistry lab. Thankfully, the government employees from Pawnee, Indiana know exactly what you're going through.

Before you begin anything else, you have to check to see what classes you have to take each semester.

Don't forget to look through your major requirements on your school's website. It is critical for graduating on time so make sure to know exactly what classes you have to take in order to fulfill your major requirements or any general education credits your school might have.

You consider re-evaluating your entire life to suit your new interests.

If the classes you have to take are all full, try some alternative options. If you have time to explore other areas you haven't considered or just sound interesting try to see if it's possible!

But your advisor sets you straight.

If you do want to explore other classes be sure to go over your choices with an advisor. No one wants to spend another $20,000 on a fifth semester because they took too many basket weaving classes.

You realize how early your registration time is.

Not all schools will have registration times that open with the sunrise, but it's likely you'll have to set an extra few alarms to get into the classes you've chosen.

You make an entire course plan and schedule.

Many schools have systems that allow students to pre-plan their schedules and plug in the classes they want before registration begins. It's best to be ahead of the curve and make a plan.

But all the upperclassmen have snagged all the classes you need.

These plans don't always work, though -- especially if you're an incoming freshmen. With most registrations being organized according to how many credits a person has, it's very likely you'll be pushed out of classes by upperclassmen.

Three weeks later, and still none of your classes have any open seats.

Many schools will have open registration times after initial registration when people can add/drop classes and shift around their schedules. It's important to keep an eye on open registration if you have to get into a specific class that filled up quickly.

But wait! They've opened up seats! People have dropped! Faith restored!

If you keep checking the registration website, often times people will be adjusting their schedules and dropping classes. Keep an eye on things and you might just find that missing seat you were looking for!

You slide into those open seats like it's your job.

When you see an open seat in a class you want don't wait! Register for it as quickly as possible since there will definitely be people waiting around for open seats just like you.

Victorious, you finish registration a new person -- you end registration a legend.

The end of registration is a blessing, but just to be safe look over your schedule and make sure everything fits and you'll have enough time to eat, sleep and catch up on your news with The Odyssey!

The most important thing to remember about registering for classes in college is that it'll all work out in the end. The same way Leslie saved the Harvest Festival and the Animal Shelter, you too can save your GPA and sanity by learning the lessons set down by the "Parks and Recreation" gods.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
