I Refuse to Give a Sh*t

If we spent our days caring what everyone thought about us, we would be human.

But if we spent our days catering our every move and word in fear of that judgement, that’s giving a sh*t.

That phrase is used a lot, isn’t it? Giving a sh*t?

I say it in situations where I’m doing something that isn’t necessarily “socially acceptable” or something “my mom would be proud of,” but what does it actually mean?

I consider myself a fairly confident person but I still worry about what others think and say about me. Giving a sh*t is when you let that worry rule your actions, and I refuse to let that happen.

I refuse to give a sh*t.

It sounds funny because it’s said often times when you’re really not doing anything EXCEPT giving a sh*t, right?

Like I said before, it’s okay to think about what others think of you, as long as you don’t let that change who you are. And eating an entire Domino’s pizza is who I am.

It’s a popular phrase often used immediately after something you’ve probably wanted to do for a long time and didn’t, on account that you might be judged for it, eventually doing it anyway.

*eats an entire bag of chips* “I don’t give a sh*t."

*scratched your boob in public* “I don’t give a sh*t."

AND YOU SHOULDN’T GIVE A SH*T!

SCREW ALL THE SH*TS!

R.I.P TO ALL THE SH*TS THAT WERE ONCE GIVEN!

Giving a sh*t is stupid. Giving a sh*t is admitting that something “unacceptable” was done and frankly, if your boob itches you should absolutely scratch it.

In fact, some may argue that you should give a sh*t. You should probably give a sh*t about the people judging you and then kill them.

Yup. Kill them.

*judges you for singing along to 1D at a red light* Dead.

*judges you for wearing a Bernie Sanders sweatshirt* Dead.

Okay, so maybe murder isn’t the answer but an evil look will do just fine.

What’s more important that giving/not giving a sh*t, is the fact that other people bother to judge you in the first place.

Since when did laughing and spitting water all over the place become something to be ashamed of? I’m having a good time with my friends and laughing IS NOT something that you get to roll your eyes at.

Am I the only one that also says it while alone?

Last night as I watched Sleepless in Seattle alone and ate a pint of ice cream, I finished, looked at my reflection in the tv, sighed, and said, “I don’t give a sh*t!”

Maybe I was judging myself unknowingly and needed to remind myself to not judge, or maybe I said it for all the haters out there that were judging from the comfort of their own homes.

Do you give a sh*t? What do you give a sh*t about?

I’ll tell you, not giving a sh*t rocks.

Sure, I still worry about what other people think of me, but it doesn’t stop me from doing what I want to do and being happy with the choices I make.

You and your hater-ass can kindly back-off.

I refuse to give a sh*t and you should too. You do you, friend.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
