Today, I saw a memory on Facebook from when I chose Rowan as my school. I remember it not really being anything important; it was just a choice.
Now, I realize how important Rowan has become for me.
Over the course of six months, I have done A LOT. From trips to work to positions, I am really in my prime. I went to New York and Baltimore for the first time, and I was able to see things I never expected to see.
I was able to get heavily involved with clubs, like the Society of Women Engineers and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Within those clubs, I was able to join their executive board positions and work on things I never expected to. Over the course of this year, I was able to prepare events for members of SWE along with an entire ball, where engineers were able to come together and have fun.
I learned that when it comes to college, you don't really understand how important the decision is until you are there. We are told before we come to college just how important everything is. You aren't told at orientation that random opportunities are going to come about. Instead, you are told that you become a part of the campus.
College is never going to be easy. Quite frankly, it is not for those of us who just fly by throughout high school, and people learn that pretty quickly into the process. The key to college is to just keep going and to take your challenges and your faults and making them into your triumphs and your strengths. I walked into college unsure of who I was, and I was worried that I wasn't going to be good enough to meet my goals.
But I did.
Just for those of you entering college, think about what it means to you. Think about what you want for yourself. Set your goals up now, so that in the future, things will happen.
