As my senior year is quickly approaching, I look back on my years at Purdue and see how different things were compared to what they are now. Some of the things that scared me most about college are now things I love to do. Here are the things that have changed me (and hopefully you) for the better:
Greek Life. As a freshman, I had no idea what the Greek community was and what it would have in store for me. Rush was a nerve-racking thing and something most people were uneasy about. Now, I couldn't imagine my life any other way. I have met my best friends and have been given so many opportunities to be a leader and serve our community.
Friends and Family. As you go through college, I think everyone realizes how important family and friends are. You only see your family on breaks and appreciate all your parents do for you when you are stuck to do your own laundry and figure out what to eat for the day. I also believe that you find out who your true friends are from back home are. They will continue talking to you and when you see them, it'll be like nothing ever changed. Additionally, you meet your second family and best friends from school.
School Work. When I first started college, I thought that classes were going to be impossible and there was no way I was going to pass. I didn't understand how I was supposed to have a social life, get good grades, do laundry, eat, and sleep without any help. Now, we are all getting by as if we never had any doubts. Of course there are those hard classes that won't get any easier with time, but generally the work is not as hard as we may have once thought.
No one can argue that college is a learning experience for us all. We all develop (hopefully) into more responsible, mature individuals. Looking back on your college years can show you how much you've changed and make you realize that you never ever want to graduate.
