Reflecting on SpelHouse Homecoming: Was the hype really worth it ?

Spelhouse homecoming was this past weekend and I must say this week has been crazy. There were ups and downs throughout the entire week, however, the feeling of being around black excellence was incredible. Seeing all of the alum return to their alma malta and watching their glow was my favorite part. Spelhouse is truly a beautiful family and the experience is amazing.

Personally, this week was nothing more than a regular week in the AUC. There were a lot of pros and cons but overall the experience was okay. The different events throughout the week were well put together compared to last year. Starting off with the Fashion Show, this event was mindblowing. Seeing students in the AUC execute the runway in these beautiful pieces was lit. They did an outstanding job with planning and I would love to attend this event again next year.

Next, the Neo-soul concert which I happened to not go to because Spelman sold out of free tickets. I was really confused on how they expected over 2500 students combined to all fit in King Chapel. When having an artist that is popular why not rent a bigger venue so that everyone who attends Spelman or Morehouse will have the opportunity to attend this FREE event. Not to mention people were selling their free ticket for more than $25. I understand everyone has a hustle but we are all in college struggling together. In the end, I believe the concert was amazing from the few snap chat videos that I was able to see.

The hip-hop concert was my favorite event that I attended during homecoming. Although, all of the waiting we had to do before Yong thug actually came out it was still a decent concert. The energy was great until the end since we waited so long for the main act to perform. I left the concert dehydrated and sweaty but the turn up was real. Not to mention Lloyd, Jacquees, Rich Kids, Tk, and more were surprise guests at the show. It was LIT !

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the coronation ball and the greek step show but from the Snaps that I saw everything looked great.

The tailgate was OK. I honestly feel like you have to know people in order to get the full experience of the tailgate. Not to mention being a broke college student on a budget during homecoming was horrible. Overall, on a scale of 1-10 tailgate was a solid 4 in my opinion.

In the end, Spelhouse homecoming was interesting. I did not have the best time but i had an okay time. I think the planning was really good this year compared to last year homecoming, however, there are till room for improvement. See you again next year Spelhouse homecoming !

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
