Redefining ‘Gender’ Will Not Erase Trans People

A man that holds the LGBT+ flag upside-down, doesn't deserve to have a say on our rights.

As many people know, the Trump Administration is trying to change the definition of “gender" to meaning “the genitalia you are given at birth". This would reverse what the Obama Administration once changed to help the community. The Trump Administration is known for other notorious things as well, such as the military ban.

“Sex" is what is between a person's legs, while “gender" is what the mind feels. Sex has a biological role, and gender has a social and personal role. They are two very distinctive things with way too much controversy. Some people's sex may not match their gender identity and this can result in people being transgender, non-binary, genderfluid, or any other gender identity.

Transgender people have always existed. This isn't something new that just came about. There are emperors and pharaohs that are believed to have been transgender dating way back to 1400 B.C. You can not, and will not, erase people that have been around millions of years.

This isn't just an argument or a disagreement, these are people's rights that the Trump Administration is trying to take away. The livelihoods of many individuals will be affected and people are already traumatized. The saying “If it's not broke, don't fix it", really comes into play here. There isn't a reason to go back and change anything as it isn't affecting anyone personally, except the positivity it brings to the people who identify as transgender, and that what little rights they have and have been given throughout the years are here, but may soon be taken away.

The President of the United States is supposed to protect the people and the safety of everyone, so where is the harmony and protection? Many kids used to grow up wanting to be President because they looked up to someone powerful, but now kids are wanting to be President to change the damage that Trump has caused only halfway through his presidency. We should be growing up in a world with acceptance and love, but fear and hate are winning. This isn't just what Trump has caused, but his followers as well. Many people have been beaten and killed because of their religion, skin color, gender identity, and sexuality since Trump has become President, and even before that as well. A man that holds the LGBT+ flag upside-down, doesn't deserve to have a say on our rights.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
