As I was brainlessly perusing the Internet as usual, I came across a controversial yet entertaining page online. I somehow stumbled onto the “Unpopular Opinion” section of Reddit (/r/unpopularopinion). I was a bit surprised at some of the opinions of some people, and there were plenty of arguments following the more controversial posts. While some were funny and light-hearted, others targeted a serious topic and generated a lot of talk. So, I decided to list some of the ones that were posted and give a brief opinion on them.

#1 “Spoons are better at spreading things than knives”

Ok, so this opinion made me laugh the second I saw it. The reason I found it so humorous is because I never use knives to spread food like mayonnaise, butter, or jam. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always used a spoon. I’m sure it may be more useful to use a knife, but it’s become such a habit for me that I guess I’ll just continue to use a spoon!

#2 “There is nothing wrong with Satanism”

I’d be lying if I said this one surprised me a bit. This may sound strange, but I myself have researched Satanism to see what it’s all about. That usually happens when I have too much time on my hands. It’s been a while since I looked it up, but I do remember that it wasn’t as scary as it sounds. The main principle behind it is obviously the rejection of any kind of God or gods; they argue that gods are a creating of humans and are thus meaningless. I’m sure there is some sketchy part of Satanism where some people take part of summoning demons or practicing human sacrifice, but I don’t think that’s what Satanism stands for as a whole. I’m not saying Satanism is good or bad, but I do respect people’s right to religious freedom as long as it does not infringe on the right of others.

#3 “Global warming is a sham”

There are no words for this one. Pick up a damn book or read a scientific journal and educate yourself.

#4 “Friends are more important than family”

Well, this may not apply to me, but I’m sure it applies to a lot of people! Sadly, some families just suck. When your family is unsupportive or toxic, it sometimes helps to just cut off all contact with them. For some people, this results in having closer relationships with friends. There’s nothing wrong with this at all, since it depends on the situation.

#5 “I don’t believe depressed people decide to be depressed”

This is an opinion that I have to agree with. Though I personally have not struggled with depression, I know it is a major problem and something that many people have to deal with. It’s not easy, and it’s not something that people embrace with open arms. Depression messes with the human mind so much and can lead people to become withdrawn and antisocial, or may even lead to drastic actions such as suicide. Sadly, depression is something that many ignore or brush off. I hope that one day people are not ashamed to seek help for this condition. Some resources for those struggling with depression include: crisistextline.org, suicide hotline: 1-800-273-8255.

Some unpopular opinions are definitely interesting and make you contemplate your own beliefs and opinions, so I recommend checking them out! I will post the link below. Thanks for reading and be sure to let me know what your unpopular opinion is!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
