The Boston Red Sox are the 2018 World Series Champions.
Maybe you didn't see that one.
THE BOSTON RED SOX ARE THE 2018 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!
My first article, from almost a year ago, was about the Houston Astros winning their 1st World Series with a fairytale ending to their season. After all that the city of Houston and that franchise has been through, that win for them was cathartic and beautiful.
2018, however, is about the return of one of the great sports dynasties, Boston.
Last year, I said I was going to withhold bias, but my favorite team just won the World Series, so the bias is about to flow.
The Red Sox won their FOURTH World Series in 14 years, In an even more insane statistic, the Boston sports franchises (Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics) have a combined 11 championships in 17 and a half years, with every team having at least one.
Hollywood has quite a few dynasties that dominate the town and many different industries. Families like the Smiths, the Sheens, and the Coppolas are all over Hollywood as the elites of the town.
Boston has become the elites of the sporting world this century.
The Patriots look to be a Super Bowl contender again this year, the Celtics appear to be the new Kings of the East, the Bruins look to be contenders in the Atlantic division, and the Red Sox just won the World Series. All four teams have championships this century and all four could add another before the decade is over, although that is a bit optimistic for the Bruins.
This Boston sports dynasty just ran through Hollywood and it could happen again if Rams-Patriots is the Super Bowl matchup or if the Lakers-Celtics rivalry is renewed, but the Lakers don't appear capable of holding up their end of the bargain.
In terms of the Red Sox dynasty forming, we have seven pending free agents, and Boston could actually bring back all the important pieces for another run.
Could there be more fairytale ending to come?
Sure, but the reality of sports tends to be that the same great franchises tend to keep getting back to the championship games, and teams like the Tampa Bay franchises have four championship games and two championships. While that conversion rate is good, the Red Sox have as many World Series wins as Tampa Bay has appearances, it's a sign of a success gap.
This isn't just a Boston thing, as cities like New York are in a similar situation, but the dynasty in Boston looks to keep steamrolling everyone on the way too success, as many great dynasties do.
No more fairytales, only reality. The reality that the elite reign over the lesser entities and the Red Sox are among the elite. The Boston elite look to continue a Hollywood-esque reign over the sports world because that's what the elite do, they dominate.
