It was all thanks to my best friend. In the best way possible! She suggested we go to the gorge for a day of hiking, and even though we both had some long weekends, Monday morning we hit the road. I hadn't been to Red River Gorge for several years. I also hadn't had a chance to catch up with her for a few weeks! We both definitely needed a long drive to chat and to be out in nature. We took so many pictures, some of which I decided to include in case anyone was curious about some of the amazing things you can find in the gorge.
The weather was perfect. It was cool enough to combat sweat, and warm enough for shorts and a T-shirt. We stuck to seeing natural bridge and several short trails, so we could check out more sights. And if you thought that there was only one giant rock bridge in Red River Gorge, you thought wrong!
There are so many trails that will lead you to wonderful rock formations and breathtaking views of the valley. From Chimney Top to the Angel Arches, you'll find something unique. And if you're luck enough to have an awesome friend or family member to take with you, the time spent there can be even more fun and memorable.
At the end of the day, my favorite part wasn't finding tons of cool fungi or even the huge slices of pizza from Miguel's. Instead, it was getting to enjoy times of talking, laughing, and the moments spent in comfortable silence with my friend. I wouldn't have preferred becoming thoroughly exhausted hiking in the woods with anyone else. So, hopefully, the next time you think about planning a day away, you'll consider dragging your best friend miles and miles through Kentucky to find some beautiful memories in the woods.
