Have you found yourself listening to the same Turnpike Troubadours song over and over again? Does your red dirt playlist need a reboot? Here are some great tunes to add to your playlist today.
1. "Ain't Over You Yet" by Flatland Cavalry
This is a solid song by a great band out of Texas with great lyrics that could only come from Flatland Cavalry. If you're a red dirt fan and you haven't heard of them, you're missing out.
"Cause I quit smoking cigarettes
And gave up drinking to forget
And they say old habits die-hard
They seem to be the hardest part
I quit lying and taking bets
But some addictions you cant quit
When it comes to you, I always lose
I guess I need my fix
Living my whole life with no regrets
But I guess I just ain’t over you yet."
2. "Meet You in the Middle" by Parker McCollum
Not only is Parker McCollum a major heart-throb, he is an amazing musician with some of the catchiest songs in the genre. While "Meet You in the Middle" is my current favorite, all of his songs are worth mentioning.
"Guess I'll meet you in the middle
well aint nobody told me it'd be this hard
Guess I'll meet you in the middle
Lord only knows if I'll make it that far"
3. "Still Think About You" by William Clark Green
Red dirt is known for exceptional songwriters and William Clark Green is one of the best. Anyone who's been on either end of break-up will relate to this heartbreaking song.
"You would say you love me
Couldn’t look you in the eye
Never meant to hurt you
Never meant to make you cry
Just couldn’t hold on
Believe me, I tried"
4. "Wild Rose" by Kaitlin Butts
The females of the genre are often neglected, but they have some of the better songs. Kaitlin's sweet voice makes this song a feel-good one, in sharp contrast from the songs aforementioned.
"Well, baby, you can bloom no matter where you are,
you don't have to live in the sky to be a star,
you don't have to be a sun to shine.
Baby, just be mine."
5. "All I See Is You" by Shane Smith & the Saints
Shane Smith & the Saints is a tremendously underrated band. Most of their songs are pretty upbeat and this catchy tune is no exception.
"Then when I'm old and weathered
From the winds of a life that consumed
I pray to God the day I'll find my death bed
All I'll see is you
'Cause all I wanna see is you'"
