Every day that we wake up, we are given 24 more hours to make a difference in someone's life. Every day that our heart is still pumping we are given the opportunity to overcome sin. Every day that our lungs allow us to breathe we have a second chance to make our lives look as similar to our Savior’s as possible. However, we often take these small things for granted; things such as the alarm blaring in the morning or the sun peering through the windows. Elements that remind us that we get another day and another chance.
Too often we stomp out of bed and paint a frown on our face because we are tired, but shouldn't we be happy for this moment, for this chance? We repeatedly look at the negative circumstances of life and crumble under the events, instead of finding the joy in them, but have you ever thought that the place where you are, you are there for a particular reason? According to Esther 4:14, “Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created.”
If you know anything about me, you know something about a small piece of Heaven called Big Reedy Christian Camp. I could write a book on this place and how the Glory of God has been displayed there more times than can be reasonably and accurately counted. But, one particular story stands out in my mind that shows how sometimes God puts you in certain moments that help define your purpose.
The land for the whole camp was donated, and no money was borrowed. The money was raised from area churches of Christ--about 1.2 million dollars--but thats not the amazing part. For building a particular septic system, certain dirt was needed, which was red clay dirt. However, the person from the state told the camp board that there was no way that this kind of dirt was down there. But, the board had been praying for God’s will to be done, and knew that no matter what God was going to take care of them. So as the whole was dug, red clay dirt wasn't there, so they dug a little further and then just a tad bit further, and guess what they scooped up? Red. Clay. Dirt. “Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created.”
Now I don't think God put Red Clay dirt in a field on D. Simpson Road two weeks before the state inspector came, but I believe that He knew from the beginning that there was going to be land in 2010 that wasn't being used for any purpose, and there was going to be a man with a dream to build a camp. And I believe God knew that we were going to need red clay dirt so he made sure it was in that field, so that His glory could be seen.
Everyday that we wake up we are given a chance to show God’s glory to someone who may not have seen it otherwise. We are here for a purpose, for a reason, and to save a life. God’s glory can be seen through something as small as dirt or as big as going on a mission trip and saving souls. When we are in situations that at first seem negative, let us trust that, “Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created.”
