Last weekend, I participated in my first recruitment as an initiated sister, and I learned just how exhausting the experience can be. However, the long, junk-food-filled days, blistering feet, and sleepless nights were more than worth it in the end. For those of you who have yet to experience this, here's what to expect throughout the process.
On day one, you're rested, feeling yourself, and ready to kill it.
For the most part, the days are going smoothly, besides the one or two inevitable, dead-end conversations.
It doesn't take long before you lose your voice and start to resent every recruitment song ever written.
Or long before you stop caring about your physical and mental health.
Suddenly, you finally meet the girl of your dreams. Your potential little, future best friend, and distraction from any negatives the week has brought.
The final day rolls around and your left to figure out which way the girls are leaning.
And when the doors close after that final round, an indescribable wave of happiness, and sense of accomplishment, washes over you.
But it still doesn't beat the feeling you get seeing all your hard work pay off as the new girls run in on bid day.
Soon come the post-bid-day notifications. New followers, Facebook friends, contacts, and of course Instagram likes.
But it isn't until the morning after when you realize just how badly the week of stress-eating and lack of sleep has effected you.
Yet, you still can't bring yourself to care.
So, embrace recruitment with all of its ups and downs. At the end of it all, it's truly rewarding and exciting. You may lose sight of the end goal somewhere throughout the week, but just wait, because there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it's all thanks to your hard work.
