Lately, I have been noticing many articles and blogs about putting the phone away and really enjoying the moment without technology. I'm here to show you the other side of things. I think it is very important to record events. It doesn't even have to be with technology, it can also be with writing - because the truth of the matter is, we don't have the brain capacity to remember every single event in our existence. So why not use the resources we have?
I'm all about really enjoying the moment, especially when I'm traveling. When I feel that I've really taken in the beauty, I take my phone out and snap a few photos or record videos of the sight. I find nothing wrong with it. If technology isn't something you want to use, write something about it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the trusty pencil and paper. Plus, it makes a really cool thing to look back on a couple years or even ten years down the road - it almost allows you to relive and see these glorious moments all of over again - similar to a photograph.
I think what should truly be discussed is being balanced. Because anyone can overuse anything, which is why balance is extremely important. I think what makes this generation so unique is the abundance of resources that we have on a daily basis. So why not hold on to those incredible moments?
Why not look back and see the beautiful sunset you watched on the beach or the best moments at your family reunion?
These resources bring us together.
Here are some photographs that were taken by my great uncle in the 70s when my family lived in Pennsylvania. If he wouldn't have taken these with his polaroid, I wouldn't have been able to have them, if not see them. They remind me to never take a moment for granted and to capture the moment. I'm inspired by him and his lens(eyes) and I'm thankful that even though I never had the chance to meet him, I was still able to look through his lens.Recording events reminds you where you came from and where you are today. Its beautiful. It is a reminder of growth, both physically and mentally.
I found this inspiring quote by Ansel Adams and it reads -
“You don't make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.”― Ansel Adams
This quote is a reminder of how personal photography is and how it isn't just a photograph, it is a part of who you are and your story.
So know that the next time you see something amazing. Know it is worthy of the photograph, video, writing, or recording.
