So, we all know that Shailene Woodley is one stellar actress and an even more amazing human being (if you don't know, then it's time for you to do your research). I, like most people, first fell in love with Shailene with her breakout roll as Amy Juergens on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." Since then, the 25-year-old "trailblazer" has left audiences wowed and stunned by her funny, emotional and even raw performances. Off screen, Woodley is a passionate activist, protester and nature lover. What can't my woman crush do?! So, join me in recapping and breaking down Shailene's notable movies.
1. "The Fault in Our Stars" (2014)
If you need a good cry, this is the movie what you should watch. Shailene made us break out our tissue boxes while bringing this book adaptation to life. She brought so much justice to her character Hazel Grace Lancaster, which is not an easy job to do. Shai made turning audiences' hearts from warm and fuzzy, to completely shattered, look like an effortless task. This film has changed how I view the world and she had a big part in helping me do that. Long live TFIOS :)
2. "White Bird in a Blizzard" (2014)
This movie will always take my breath away. Although it's not one of her most well-known roles, I believe this is Shai's BEST performance to date. This film is for all my suspense, thriller, and mystery fans out there. The plot twist is phenomenal and pulled off excellently by her character Kat Connor. From casting, to directing, to the overall message, this movie has it all. This is worth the watch and I promise you you'll have a new respect for Shailene. You're welcome.
3. "The Descendants" (2011)
Throwing it back to her movie debut. As if seeing Shai work her magic wasn't enough to convince you to see this, you should note that she shares the screen with the one and only George Clooney *swoon*. The movie was shot in Hawaii where Shai's character, Alex King and her family cope with her mother being in a coma. Like any other comedy-drama film, there are MANY bumps along the journey that leave you laughing, crying, and just downright entertained. This film will have your head spinning and leave you questioning your choices in life. Pretty intense, huh?
4. The Divergent Series ("Divergent" 2014, "Insurgent" 2015, "Allegiant" 2016)
It's time to get your blood pumping. This is one of her most famous roles and one of my favorite movie series. Based off of Veronica Roth's trilogy: "Divergent," "Insurgent" and "Allegiant." Shailene plays Tris Prior, a brave, selfless and incredible character, who at such a young age teaches audiences about facing their fears. If you're into action scenes, with a bit of thrill and a dash of romance, these movies are for you. Not to mention the AMAZING casting in this movie... Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Jai Courtney, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q. The list goes on and on.
5. The Spectacular Now (2013)
The perfect rom-com drama to get your heart fluttering. This movie follows the story of senior year high schoolers who are dealing with accepting their unknown future. Aimee Finicky, as played by Shailene, is an outkast who falls in love with charming and confident Sutter Keely, who is played by Miles Teller (aka you should watch it right NOW). You'll get swept up in their teenage romance and end up breaking your heart, too. The ending always leaves me wanting to know more of the story but, that's up to our imaginations to figure out. You won't regret watching this one; trust me.
6. Snowden (2016)
Last, but not least. As of right now, this is Shailene's latest film. We watched her grow over the years and now we get to see her blossom more as an actress in this role. This movie tells the real-life story of Oliver Stone which begs the question: Is he a traitor or a hero? Shai plays Lindsay Mills, who is often seen taking photographs but is more importantly the girlfriend of Edward Snowden. Dive into one of America's hottest debates and decide if Snowden is a criminal or not for yourself. And as always, Shailene does a FANTASTIC job turning into her character, but what else is new?
