I really felt as if I had to post a rebuttal to this article written by Drea George. Before I begin, Ms. George, please know I am not attacking you personally or your views. I am not trying to cause unnecessary conflict between me and someone I do not know. I am simply having a political debate. Showing the other side’s view. And I’m going to try to do it as short as possible. With that being said, here we go.
First of all, I do hate the phrase “American values.” America was built to be a melting pot, a juncture of cultures. I think the phrase you are looking for is “American Christian values.” Now, before we fully pull out the religion card: I don’t identify with a religion. I’m more spiritual, I find myself open minded with religion. But, let’s face it, America wasn’t founded on too great of things. We murdered, raped and pillaged Native Americans to steal their land. Land we immigrated to. We stole this country from them. You can open any history book to learn that and yet that is seen as a huge victory, when in reality it is disgusting and if a country did that now, they’d be left in the cold. Aside from that, let me use my next example of “American values” with abortion. Give me one non-Christian-based reason to ban abortion. Scientifically, there isn't a good reason to ban it. Most people don’t want it legal because it’s “against God.” There is such a thing called separation of church and state, and if abortion ever got banned, that would throw that right out the window. (Also, let me take the time to say that Planned Parenthood helps millions of people with vaginal health and general health and he wants to defund them. They don’t just do abortions!) Trump wants to get rid of the separation of church and state for something else: letting churches have political affiliations. No. That’s against the first amendment and, thus, illegal.
Next: his issue stances.
Republicans claim he is a friend to the LGBTQ+ community. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, this is wrong. He is not a friend to me. In this article it states that he would “strongly consider appointing Supreme Court judges who will ensure that marriage equality is overturned.” Is that being a friend to the queer community? When people who are straight say that it doesn’t matter as long as you have rights. If someone made your marriage illegal, you wouldn’t stand up for yourselves? He has also said he is a“traditional” guy. Here we go again. Traditional? You mean Orthodox Christian. I’m sorry, but this man is only saying “LGBTQ+ lives matter” for the votes. He doesn’t mean it.
Honestly with all of his issues, I see no real plan. When he talks, all he says is “I’m gonna do it!” and when people ask how, he just says, “I’m gonna!!!” I have not heard him actually speak any of his plans before. It just “I’m going to build a wall and get all the illegals out!” Okay... But how? “We’re going to build a wall!” Okay, Trump... “I’m going to this also goes with building jobs. Okay... How? Immigrants aren’t stealing our jobs. Immigrants have jobs, the company fires hundreds, and some stay. They aren’t taking our jobs, companies are destroying jobs. Companies don’t have the money to make more jobs, either.
I’m going to get away from the article to say the following things. I hope you see my points, Ms. George.
I know Trump has told you that police are being brutally murdered at a higher rate than ever. I’m sorry. This is blatantly not true. You can see in this chart that 171 police were killed on the line of duty in 2011, 131 in 2012, 109 in 2013, 122 in 2014 and 123 in 2015. It fluctuates, but it’s lower. Hell, it’s better than the 262 cops killed in 1924! And on the opposite page, police killed 1,000 people in 2015 alone. 40 percent of these deaths were unarmed black men. Again, I’m sorry, but if the police can take James Eagan Holmes (the 2012 Aurora shooter) into custody alive, with guns, they can take an unarmed man alive.
All politics aside, I don’t understand how people think he would be a good face for this nation. Yelling, offensive, and angry-faced, please tell me how in the world this is supposed to give us more allies. Especially when other countries think he is running as a joke! I’m concerned he will just piss off every other country and we’ll be in more trouble than ever. And even his political party doesn’t like him! And Kim Jong Un loves him! And the Grand Wizard of the KKK endorses him! Isn’t that concerning?!
More politics aside, he makes creepy statements about being physically attracted to his daughter. More than once. I’m sorry, but if my father said that I have “the best body,” I would probably vomit. And you all would, too.
Obviously, I am not a fan of Trump. That being said I am not a fan of Clinton for that matter, either. But having Trump as a president would be like opening the seventh seal. For more less-emotionally charged reasons to never vote for Trump, check out this article by P.A. Villafane. So, if you read all of this, thank you. I tried my hardest to be coherent and I hope it worked. I do just get very emotional about this subject. But in conclusion, these are my short reasons for not supporting Trump.
Let’s try to make good decisions this election season.
