Coming from a small town, I have always had an appreciation of the "Shop Local" movement. I remember growing up and I would spend a Saturday with my grandparents and we would go to Charlie, TX to pick pieces and get local fruits and vegetables.

As I got older and school became a game of strategy and studying, most of my days were spent at local coffee shops. When I needed pops of color added to my wardrobe, I would first turn to local boutiques before reaching for chain retailers. I never truly understood the amount of effort that is spent to just keep these shops afloat and the amount of economic structure they provide to our local communities. So as I sit here in this Lubbock local coffee shop, here are the 10 reasons you should shop locally.

1. Makes you feel good.

We all want to reach the top Instagramers aesthetic. What better way to do that then snapping a pic at your local Farmer's Market or enjoying coffee with a friend in a local mom and pop shop.

2. Support your neighbors.

These community members that work and own these local shops are people you see in your community on a daily basis. These are the moms you babysit for, the people you see at school and church. They work hard to share their passion with your community, help them celebrate that.

3. Boost the economy.

When you take the opportunity to shop local you are investing in your local economy which pays off in a BIG way. By stopping local you get to reap the rewards of having local businesses like activities geared toward your community and it encourages other local businessmen and women to start projects in your neighborhood.

4. Know first hand where the product comes from.

Regardless of the price, in my opinion, it means more to know you are getting fresh local products instead of having them shipped in from all over the world.

5. Authenticity.

When you shop local, you interact with real people doing what they really love. There is a matter of authenticity you experience when you begin to shop locally.

6. Great customer service.

When you shop local you are helping your community members accomplish all they could ever want with there storefront. Having a great customer service applied to your shops makes the process 10 times more enjoyable.

7. Build a community.

Having a group of friends who would rather spend Saturdays walking downtown and experience local shops as opposed to chain retailers are friends to keep.

8. Pure charm.

There is something to be said about a store that just makes you feel welcome. Local shops and storefronts will add charm to your community and often attract new and old customers alike.

9. Meaningful relationships.

When you become a regular at your local coffee shop or favorite store you are building meaningful connections with local community members and leaders. In my opinion, that means so much more than just a cup of coffee.

10. It's the one and only.

When you shop local this is an experience you can't have anywhere house. These mom and pop shops are what you love about your community and you wouldn't trade it for the world.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
