Reasons I Write For The Odyssey

Reasons I Write For The Odyssey
Shelby Stuart

People ask me all the time, "Why do you write for The Odyssey?" There are so many reasons I create content for this program! The reason could be something simple as it helps me get my emotions in the open or something more meaningful knowing that hundreds of people are reading my voice! Whatever it is I am glad to have this opportunity!

Emotions in Motion

Whether I am having a really good day that is full of motivation or a really bad day with a lot of tears, writing always helps! I like to spread the cheer in advice articles or short stories with beautiful endings. I also, on my bad days like to remind myself to stay in touch with reality and shed a little light on the more serious issues, or if it is a really bad day I throw out my political view.

A Blank Slate to Create

This social media platform allows me to create my unique voice and spread it throughout the nation. I can take these keys and white screen and turn it into something inspirational and tear jerking! I can turn my simple Facebook profile into complex system of ideas and imagination. It is another lens to help individuals view the world.

Reference of the Essence

When I am able to tell a prospective employer I was in charge of meeting deadlines, leading a team, and editing articles weekly it looks amazing! I love seeing their jaw drop and the questions that follow. When I can say that I have articles published it gives me a little more confidence to shake their hand with! This is a great opportunity to put your skills to the test and show employers what you got.

No Judging Just Hugging

This isn't a place to be ridiculed and have your work sent back a hundred times. It is a place to feel at home and be a published author without someone breathing down your back. I can do what I want when I want, which makes it all worth it to me! I feel comfortable sharing my ideas and my voice with this program! I love this opportunity I've been given!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
