Since her creation in 1941 by DC Comics, "Wonder Woman" has become a symbol of the feminist movement. With her star-spangled armor and bullet-deflecting bracelets, she was a symbol of female empowerment and justice. For years, "Wonder Woman" played second fiddle to superheroes like Batman and Superman, however, in 2017 she finally received her own movie. Diana Prince's status as the ultimate feminist was cemented in pop culture for years to come, here are five reasons why Wonder Woman is deserving of such a title.
1. She believes in freedom and justice for all: regardless of race, religion, or gender.
Diana believes in a society where all people are created equal! When she fights, she fights for all of us and protects us from those who may challenge those freedoms.
2. She supports all women and sees them all as her sisters.
Never will you hear Diana put down another woman simply because she doesn't like the way she dresses (which is something she cares little about). She supports all women and believes in the strength of the sisterhood. She believes that when women join forces, they can beat back the evil men that seek to destroy their reputations. To quote Lynda Carter in the television series: "Women are the wave of the future"
3. She doesn't allow anyone to stop her from doing what's right.
In the 2017 film version, Steve Trevor attempts to dissuade Diana from going out into No Man's Land in order to rescue those unjustly imprisoned in the German-occupied town. However, Diana refuses to hear it and goes out into No Man's Land, deflecting bullets left and right and leading her men to victory. Diana believes that she can do good for others in the face of adversity.
4. She knows how important teamwork is
Diana knows that greatness cannot be achieved alone, that is why she enlists others to assist her in her battles. She recognizes strength in others and invites everyone to help her defend truth, honor, and justice for all!
5. And most of all, she inspires young women everywhere
Diana makes it a point to tell young women that women are just as powerful as men. She empowers them to use their strength for the good of the people and for themselves. She seeks to push young women to recognize when they are being mistreated or wronged. Wonder Woman is the ultimate big sister who both supports and loves her younger sisters!
