There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't go on a mission trip. If you are a Christian, then you are commanded in the Great Commission to make disciples of all nations, baptize them and teach them everything Jesus has commanded us. Going on a mission trip doesn't mean going to a different country. People in our backyards need Jesus just as much as people on the other side of the world. There are so many reasons why you should go on a mission trip though, and here are three.
1. You will help so many people.
Every year on a high school mission trip, we were always told the story about warm fuzzies (which you can read here). Basically, if you had a fuzzy, you were happy; if someone was sad, you would give them one to make them feel better. This is a lot like helping people. I don't know about you, but I love helping people, and it makes me happy. On my last mission trip, which was a medical mission trip, if someone was feeling sick, we would give them medicine to make them feel better again, which was like giving them a warm fuzzy. Helping other people will be a blessing to the ones you are helping but it is an even bigger blessing for you.
2. You will meet people that will change your life.
I have met kids on mission trips and have seen them grow up over the years of going back. I have also met people with life stories that will leave you speechless. On this past mission trip, though, I met one of my best friends. Some of the people that you meet will really make you think about how we take the smallest things for granted.
3. You will be doing what you've been called to do.
As I said earlier, we have been called to tell others about Christ. When we fulfill this commandment, it does not go unnoticed by God.
What I'm trying to say is that you should go on a mission trip if the opportunity presents itself. If you are scared about it or worried about money or anything at all, you should pray about it. In Jeremiah 29:12 it says, "Then you will call on me and come to pray to me, and I will listen to you." God will always hear your prayer no matter what.
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8
