Why you should write for Odyssey

The Odyssey is an online magazine that allows millennials' voices be heard. This platform is student run and provides great opportunities for it's writers. I do not regret one minute getting involved with Odyssey, I wish I would of know about it earlier in my college career. This platform allows me to grow more as a writer and a leader. Here is five reason why college students should consider writing for Odyssey:

1. You can write about whatever you want.

This online magazine allows you to write about whatever topic that truly appeals to you. Other platforms have rules and guidelines, most of the time you have to pitch your ideas to the Editor before writing. Odyssey allows students to write about whatever appeals to them. Odyssey is ran by millennials for millennials, so if you think your topic is interesting there is a chance that there is someone else that believes so too. If you want to write about the upcoming election or top 10 reason why Scott Disick is our favorite Kardashian this is a place for you.

2. Odyssey is a resume builder.

Odyssey is an unique experience that can be put on your resume. This is a great platform for students who are not involved in other extracurricular activities. It doesn't even matter what your major is! Being a good writer and constantly writing for a platform looks valuable to all employers. This experience will show others that you can follow deadlines and write about what matters to you. Even if you are a math major being apart of Odyssey will look great on your resume.

Since Odyssey is ran by your peers there is always room for improvement. After starting out as a writer you can move your way up to Editor in Chief of your school. From there you can get a job as a copy editor for Odyssey. This is a way to get your foot in the door at headquarters and soon move your way up to a Managing Editor. Odyssey is about hiring with in their company. Even as a writer there is opportunities to win money for getting the most shares. This is a way to make connections and maybe make this opportunity a new job in the future.

5. Odyssey makes your voice matter.

Your voice matters in Odyssey because your content is being read and shared by others just like you. You get to hear your peers voices just like they get to hear yours. 7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that.
