You and I both know you were so close to getting that summer bod. It almost felt like that state farm commercial with the old man, you almost had it, but you weren't quick enough. So let's reflect on 10 reasons why you didn't get that dreamy summer body!

1. Timing
You know you were making those late night runs to McDonalds, in between cramming sessions during finals week and before you know it, it's the first day of summer, and the bikini bod is not where you want it to be. Oops...

2. Family Gatherings
It never fails, every time you go home, someone is always trying to stuff food down your throat. And most of the time you have to take it or you might be offending someone.

3. Motivation
When it's 100 degrees in Texas, of course you don't want to get out of your house, because that would mean leaving the A/C. So it's gotta be understandable when you have 0 motivation to get up and start working on that summer bod.

4. Dieting
Sometimes, no matter how much you workout, you still can't seem to get that perfect body you've been dreaming of. Part of it is the dieting. Yeah, maybe eating that cheesecake (or 1000 Krabby Patties) wasn't a good choice.

5. Procrastination
Don't lie, you've purposely made yourself busy. Well, at least that's what you're telling yourself. You've suddenly found an interest in doing laundry, or wiping down all the baseboards in your house. Anything as long as you don't have to get up and workout.

6. Sleep
Enough said. Sleep is better than a workout.

7. School
In between cramming for a test, reading a chapter before your next class, and writing a paper, of course the last thing you want to do is squeeze in a workout. So go ahead, blame your professor for not getting that summer bod.

8. Netflix
Netflix > workout. Obviously Netflix wins. You gotta stay up to date on all the shows everyone else is binge watching. Bye bye summer bod!

9. Friends
It probably didn't help that your friends gave you an ultimatum. You couldn't miss out on the latest party. Party equals alcohol (if you're 21 and up. Stay above the influence y'all), and alcohol equals weight gain.

10. Lazy
It's okay to admit you were just lazy. We'll shoot for the summer bod next summer! You got it!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
