10 Reasons Why 'The Bachelor' Gives Us False Hope

There aren’t many girls I know that don’t spend their Monday nights binge eating ice cream and drinking wine with their girlfriends while watching "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette." After watching this show for several years, I have come to the conclusion that this show gives us all mixed emotions and false hope on what we should expect from life in general.

1. I hate to admit it but you will never ever have 28 guys chasing after you. As awesome as that would be, that will be one dream that might never come true.

2. Being able to afford the wardrobe and amount of cocktail party dresses is probably financially impossible.

3. You will probably never be able to travel to that many exotic countries and islands in a matter of three months.

4. Coming from any girl with experience in relationships – opening up is hard, but imagine having to open up to a stranger in three months and potentially being engaged in the end. After multiple failed relationships, I think it will take a little more than three months of getting to know someone before knowing whether or not you’re ready to spend the rest of your life with them.

5. Obviously living with multiple girls, there will be drama. But how can girls be friends when they’re all fighting for love from the same guy? Honestly, if the feelings are real, I think it’s impossible.

6. Having a camera crew plus multiple other girls around isn’t an accurate representation of what your future relationship will hold.

7. How is it possible that almost every guy that goes on this show has a perfectly sculpted body? I wish every guy that crossed my path looked like that.

8. You’re only seeing your future significant other after you're spending hours getting ready for a date. If you think about it, every girl shown on camera is wearing some sort of makeup, because once again, there is a camera filming their every move.

9. When it comes to hometown dates, how do you explain to your family that the guy you’re letting them meet is also dating three other girls? Yes, it’s part of the process but how will your dad feel about that?

10. You’re fighting a losing battle. You’re competing with 28 other girls for one guy. In the end, regardless, this one guy walks away happy and in love, when you’re not guaranteed to be the lucky girl that this guy walks away with. Where does that leave you? With another broken heart.

As entertaining as the show may be, it's never going to happen. We basically just love to hate "The Bachelor."

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
