As soon as Halloween is over everybody is immediately hanging up their lights, tinseling their trees and baking their gingerbread men. People tend to forget that there's another holiday, possibly the most important one EVER, in between Halloween and Christmas. Thanksgiving. To honor the underappreciated holiday, here are 11 reasons why Thanksgiving is the most underrated holiday ever.
1. The copious amounts of food
Food = number one priority.
Thanksgiving literally praises shoving your face full of food, what more could you want from a holiday?
2. The food coma
There's nothing better than putting on your comfy sweats, eating mountains of food and taking a cat nap in the living room with the rest of your family.
3. Having the ENTIRE week off
Depending on what university you go to, of course.
ISU has the entire week off though, so get on our level.
4. Pie
Pumpkin, apple, cherry, banana cream... you name it, that pie will more than likely be at your Thanksgiving feast and you will more than likely eat it all by yourself.
5. Family time
You might not want to talk to Aunt Linda about why you're still alone on the holidays or tell every single detail about your college experience to Uncle Ray, but being surrounded by family can be super refreshing.
You just might need a bit of liquid courage to survive the festivities.
6. Friendsgiving
Friendsgiving is the same as Thanksgiving, only it's less awkward making small talk and easier to fight during the football games.
7. The football games
If your family is anything like mine, we quickly gobble down our food in order to watch any football game that's on. From noon until 9 PM, we're constantly watching football and eating the remnants of our Thanksgiving feast.
8. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
We all know that every performer is lipsyncing and we feel bad because we know all of the performers are freezing, but we still love watching the extravagant floats and ginormous balloons travel down the streets of New York.
9. Giving thanks
Thanksgiving's title is pretty self-explanatory; it's all about giving thanks. Sure, we should remember to be thankful for everything we have every single day, but at least we have a day where everybody can come together and share what/who they're thankful for.
This is a little cheesy, but that's kind of a beautiful, heart-warming thing.
10. Black Friday (sometimes)
We all know Black Friday can be very touch-and-go. You either have a very successful shopping trip until 3 AM, or you fight with random people for things that are only 40% off.
To be completely honest, though, Black Friday can be super fun! Just don't get too aggressive.
11. Christmas is right around the corner, so there's still something to look forward to once it's over
As soon as the clock strikes midnight after you've eaten your turkey and pumpkin pie, you are officially allowed to play "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and set up all of your Christmas lights and decorations.
But DO. NOT. SKIP. THANKSGIVING.
