8 Reasons Why My Mom Is Better

My mom is pretty dang awesome and here is why.

8 Reasons Why My Mom Is Better

Here are just a few reasons why my mom is one of the coolest people that I know.

1. Best taxi ever

Starting at a very young age I became very involved in pretty much everything I could. My mom drove me to everything from soccer practice to band practice at 6:30 in the morning. She drove me all the way from a contest in my school to a contest three hours away for a 15 minute performance. Tournaments, contest, concerts and practices, if it weren't for my awesome taxi I would not be half of the person I would be today.

2. My biggest fan

Not only did my mom drive me to all of my practices and competitions she went and was cheering me on. Eight years of band concerts and competitions. Nine years of soccer games and tournaments. Six years of baseball. Two years of track. Four years of drag racing. She has spent lots of days with no voice because of all of the screaming and cheering she did on the sidelines.

3. Great at baking

Ugh. The food she makes is just awesome. Chocolate covered Oreo balls. Caramel puffcorn. Pudding bars (Scotcharoos with a layer of pudding in the middle). Seasoned crackers. As a picky eater I do not eat a lot of food. Thank goodness she makes delicious treats.

4. She pushes me to be a better person.

My mom has gotten me to do things that I would have never thought about doing. With her help, I was able to have the confidence to wrestle in high school, go to college in South Dakota, and change my major.

5. She has put up with me for 20 years.

Enough said.

6. She keeps me level headed.

There have been many times where my mom has kept me level headed. I am freaking out about homework? She is helping me out, even four hours away. Out at the race track? She is there making sure that I make it to all of my races and that when I get nervous before one that I relax and make sure I calm down.

7. She would do anything for me.

Yes. She is my mom and most moms would do anything for their kids. She has driven six hours round trip in -20 degree weather to see me for five minutes and give me a roaster.

8. She is one heck of a fighter.

Ten years ago on May 10, my mom gave me a card wishing me good luck on a speech I was giving later that day. She could not tell me in person because she was in the hospital getting ready to go into surgery to get rid of cancer. It has been 10 years and she is still kicking cancers butt.

My mom is one of the strongest, smartest, kindest women I know. She continues to make me proud to be her son.

Christmas Tree

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
