Band was my safe place during all my years of high school. It was the reason I was so excited every day after school and the reason I wanted to go to school. This is now my first year going without doing marching band at my university and I miss it like CRAZY! Here are the reasons why I miss it so much:

1. Band Camp

This was one of the many things I looked forward to every year. Besides getting show music and learning drill, I was always excited to see my friends and to make new friends with all the new incoming marchers.

2. Trips

If you were ever in marching band, we all know this was our favorite part. I always enjoyed the trips we have taken over the time I was there and the many adventures we had.

3. Having something to do every Friday night

With marching band, I was always at the home and football games. It gave me something to do every Friday night instead of staying in bed and not having plans. Friday nights were where I have the most memories from.

4. Friendships

If it was not for marching band, I would not have found the amazing friends I have today. I have always enjoyed meeting new people and creating a bond that no one would understand. To This day, I still have an amazing close bond with the majority of people I became friends with in band.

5. Competitions

As much as I despised it at first, I miss going on the bus rides to competitions. Not only that but I also miss watching the other bands perform and the amazing food that they provide over there. I miss being able to discuss with my band friends how amazing each show was.

6. The Band Family

Band was my second family and I miss having that special bond with not only the people but with the band directors as well. It was the only place I felt accepted. My band family was always there for me through my good and bad times.

7. Band Directors

They were three amazing people who were dedicated and showed how much they cared for us. If it was not for them pushing me out of my comfort zone and for pushing me to be a better musician, I would not be where I am and I am thankful for them. These directors are the reason why I continue to strive to be a better person and a better musician everyday.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
