Fathers are great. They are always there to embarrass you in the worst times, make you laugh with all of their “great” jokes, and most of all love you when you need it the most. They may not understand everything their daughters go through, but they are always there supporting you no matter what! I am lucky enough to have a father like this.

He constantly shows me unconditional love, and now it's my turn to share why I love him:

1. He lets me think for myself

From a young age, my dad has always made me feel like an individual. He has never forced his views on me or made me feel obligated to do so. Because of this, I have been able to have an open-minded outlook of the world, and I have been able to come to make conclusions for myself. Plus, it's always fun to debate with him about out differences!

2. He never makes me feel like a failure

Throughout my academic career, I have experienced many ups and downs. There have been times where I have done well, and other times where my performance was less desirable. Throughout those hard times, my dad has never made me feel incapable, or stupid; he has and continues to believe in my intelligence, something that is hard for me to do at times. Because I have him pushing me, I have always accomplished more than I thought I could.

3. He’s always there to make me laugh

Whether it’s singing tunes in the car, making a lot of dad jokes or simply being his authentic self there is not a day that goes by where he doesn’t make me laugh.

4. He recognizes that I am growing up

I am lucky to have a dad that recognizes that I am getting older. He understands that there would be boys and that I’ve have grown out of the little golden books that we used to read together. He has been there for me throughout all of my stages, and has given me more indepence with each. I know that it must not be easy, so I use it wisely.

5. He always shares his insightful knowledge

From the time I was a little girl, he has thought me many lessons. The one that has stood out the most is the saying “nothing good comes easy.” Whenever I would be stressed, or having a difficult time he would always remind of this. It’s something I use to get me through the hard times and will pass down to the generations after me.

6. He makes me feel worthy

My dad constantly reminds of beautiful I am. From a young age he has shown me how I deserve to be treated. He always reminds me that I am loved, and for that I am truly thankful.

7. He never holds me back

When I was twelve years old my dad allowed me to move to America. He knew that there would be better opportunities for me, than in Grenada. Every day I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to be educated in such an amazing country. My dad was unable to make the move with me, but he reminds everyday that he is supporting me to the fullest!

8. He is one of my best friends

We can laugh together, be open with each other, and I can always rely on him to pull through for me. No matter how complicated things may get, I know that my dad will always be there to fight with me.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
