J.Cole has been one of my favorite music artists since 2009. Ever since then, he has made a name for himself. His talent has sprung him to the top of the charts and making his singles and albums become platinum. But, that's not why I like him or adore his music. It's more than the fame and the hip hop culture. What has made me a true fan was his lyrics and his journey through music.
He explained all of his childhood and problems he went through in his recent album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive. The majority of his songs relate to me in a personal way. One song I listened to a lot was "Love Yourz". This song has spoke to me in so many ways because of the theme and what the song is mainly about. The song meant that genuinely love what you have and appreciate the loved ones who surround you everyday. I think that is one of the most inspiring themes to a song.
I am a huge fan of J. Cole. Not because of his looks, his fame or fortune but for his understanding and talent that he brings. He cares for his fans, his family and even for his friends. He has a record label called Dreamville with a few known music artist that are coming up and is signed with Roc Nation. He isn't underrated but one of those artists that are well known but discredited for their work. All that this generation knows is about "turnin' up music" or music that is hot in the clubs. But, what this generation doesn't understand is true music and true art. I feel like J.Cole has made a huge fan base for himself in the past year. J.Cole recently has been to many music festivals to promote his music and his career. He is building his name and his music empire. J. Cole's "Wet Dreamz" is certified platinum, selling one million units since its release on the North Carolina rapper's 2014 Forest Hills Drive album. This is the second song from the LP to reach platinum status, following "No Role Modelz," which was given the nod last month. Cole now has had four cuts go platinum. The other two are "Power Trip" from Born Sinner and "Work Out," his breakout single from Cole World: The Sideline Story.
This has truly been a great year for him. As a proud fan, I wouldn't have loved hip-hop so much if it wasn't for J.Cole. Many sources said that he might release a collaboration album with Kendrick Lamar which have been in the works for months but this time it could be still happening. "Beauty in the struggle, ugly in the success" one of the many lyrics that I found so beautifully written by this artists. Many songs from his mix-tapes and albums do spark my interest or have meaning to me. I am excited to see what he could bring next to the music world.
