Reasons Why 'High School Musical' Is Always Relevant

It's time to go back to that movie we all once watched and loved.

Reasons Why 'High School Musical' Is Always Relevant

We all remember "High School Musical." We all remember how every female tween swooned for Troy Bolton, and how all of us secretly loved Sharpay's flamboyant costumes and locker decorations. We all didn't really like Taylor (let's be real, she was irrelevant), but we adored everything about Gabriela. And Troy and Gabriela were relationship GOALS.

From its catchy songs and attractive characters, it glorified high school. Now that we've all experienced high school and realized that it's not as fun and flirty as the movie made it out to be, "High School Musical" has been pushed aside as that cheesy Disney movie we all watched long ago.

However, re-listening to some of the classic songs from the "High School Musical" trilogy, I noticed how the lyrics and take-home messages were surprisingly powerful and important. This seemingly classic Disney movie that we all watched was actually teaching us lessons that were necessary for the maturing mind. It's time to appreciate "High School Musical" in all its glory--as young adults.

Here are the reasons and lyrics that prove that "High School Musical" is always relevant.

1. It taught us that having a balanced life is hard to achieve, but is worthwhile. It's perfectly normal (and amazing) to have multiple hobbies, passions, and interests, and you have every right in the world to pursue all of them.

2. It taught us that go-time means go-time. You can't let other people get in the way of accomplishing what you have to do.

3. It taught us that being true to yourself and your lifestyle is important, and to let no one get in the way of how you want to live your life.

4. It taught us that it's okay to be frustrated when things aren't playing out as expected, and that this unexpected change may be for the better.

5. It taught us that you have to work hard to achieve your best and your dreams, and that competition is out there.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the lyrics to "Bop to the Top?"

I believe in dreaming--shooting for the stars

Baby to be number one, you got to raise the bar

Kicking and scratching--grinding out my best

Anything it takes to climb the ladder of success

Work our tails off everyday--gotta bump the competition, blow them all away

6. It taught us the importance of teamwork and its ability to accomplish anything.

7. It taught us to have faith in our friendships, and that at the end of the day, it's your friends that lift you up and support you for who you truly are.

8. It taught us that, honestly, taking control over our own lives and our future is pretty terrifying--but that we're not alone in this struggle.

9. It taught us how important high school is to us as growing, maturing individuals. It taught us to always look back and appreciate everyone that contributed to your learning experience.

Thank you, "High School Musical."

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
