Reasons Why Fishing Is Good For You

I cannot think of a better way to spend my mornings, evenings, weekends, weekdays, hump days, or any other day, than spending it fishing. Fishing has brought me so much happiness. Look at the smile on my face! How could you not smile with a fish hooked on?

Let me enlighten you on some of the reasons why fishing is good for you.

It tests your patience.

It isn't like that aspect doesn't get enough exercise in the regular day to day, but fishing really puts it to the test! You can sit all day long without a single bite waiting for just the right time. Also, when you do catch a fish, you have to be patient when reeling in so you don't break your line.

Your trial and error skills are put to use.

You have to try all kinds of lures, colors, etc., to find out what the fish are going to hit on that day. You also have to try out different spots of where fish could be and see which place(s) you catch the most at.

You get to spend time with people that you love.

At one point, my boyfriend and I had "Fishing Thursdays," and every Thursday we'd go fishing and spend time together. My brother and I don't see each other often but when we do get to spend a day together, fishing is at the top of our to-do list. And how is spending time with people that you love ever a bad thing?

You get more time in nature.

There are articles upon articles that tell you how relaxing and peaceful nature is. None of those articles are wrong. Fishing is a great way to spend time in nature. I grew up in Montana, where you literally cannot avoid nature, and some of my best memories were spent outside, while fishing.

Fish makes for a good, healthy dinner.

Bringing home a fatty trout for your mom to cook up at the end of the day is the best feeling. Your mom loves cooking. You love fishing. What a great team.

The heath benefits are unreal.

OK, the list isn't that long but hey, there are some. Really good fishing spots can sometimes require some hiking to get to. Fishing requires you to possibly hike into a lake, row around a lake, maneuver around the shores of lakes and so much more. You often have to carry around a backpack with all of your tackle in it. And of course, beer adds some extra weight.

Fishing helps you with planning, or your lack of.

I'm the type of person who likes to have plans, but fishing can be an "on the fly" activity (get my corny fly fishing joke?). I usually like to know the basic of who, what, where, when... but fishing doesn't always have that. It gives you a reminder that life works itself out. You can plan the place, day, snacks, etc. for fishing, or one day you might just happen to pass a river with a fish jumping in it and stay and fish for hours. You never know.

Snacks.

As mentioned above, you can plan out your snacks to bring with you on your fishing adventure. I am a big fan of the basic iced tea and hot Cheetos mix. Other people often go for a soda and a bag of sunflower seeds. The possibilities are endless but nonetheless, snacks are good for you because you are eating food so you don't die.

Overall, fishing is good for you in many ways. It can give you a break from your crazy life and set you back to where you need to be. You can spend some time with family, friends, boyfriends, or yourself. You can burn calories getting to where you want to fish and replenish them with the crappy snacks you brought. It can be so fun and so peaceful all at once.

Fishing is good for your soul.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
