Staying inside has its perks, like watching Netflix, staying in bed, crafting, or cooking, but you have to remember that there is a whole world out there. In my opinion, being outdoors and being active is one of the best things you could do for yourself. Activities like going to the beach, taking walks at the park, or going to events with your friends and family. I think it is important to be adventurous, especially during your teenage years. There really is the world out there and you could be missing it if you spend too much time inside wondering about it. With that being said, here are the reasons why being outdoors instantly lifts my mood.

1. It's something to look forward to.

-Going outside means being open to new opportunities for the day. Instead of sitting inside and watching Netflix all day, you have different plans in a new setting. You don't have to hear yourself saying, "I'm bored....there is nothing to do!" When there is something to do, you're most likely going to be in a better mood. It is also a good distraction for a few hours and keeps your mind off things.

2. It makes you appreciate the little things.

-Going to the beach is one of my favorite activities to do. I believe that the beach offers a tranquil state of mind because of the sound of the waves and the sand crinkling in your toes. The activity requires NO money and just ALL of your attention. Being able to relax on the beach whether you're sunbathing, playing frisbee with your friends, going in the water, or taking a walk allows you to clear your mind and relax for a little bit. It makes you appreciate that even the simplest activity can bring a smile to your face and make you appreciate the beauty the world has to offer.

3. There are so many things to do!

-Have you ever had that feeling that you were missing out on something? When you're outdoors, there are so many things you could do! You can go on adventures with your friends and make memories that are worth talking about for a lifetime. These years are crucial to "live your life" in. If you want to go to the city and go see the tree at Rockefeller center at 3 am, go do it. If you want to drive to Taylor Swift's house in Watch Hill, go do that. If you want to go out to eat for your 21st birthday and have a few drinks with your friends, go do that. My point is, there are so many things you could do and you should not feel like your options are limited.

4. It exposes you to new things.

-Be open to taking risks. You shouldn't live your life with a bunch of regrets and what if's. The saying I like to tell my friends is "if you didn't like it, then you never have to do it again" or if you're uncomfortable, "all you need to do is say no."

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
