7 Reasons To Visit Puerto Rico

In the midst of the Caribbean, there's a small island that many of you have probably heard about, and that island is Puerto Rico. La Isla del Encanto (the island of enchantment), as it is often referred as, is a truly magical place, and I promise I'm not biased just because it's my homeland. Let's face it, thought, it is a pretty neat place. To those who have experienced its beauty, don't you just want to be there forever? And for those of you who haven't, I just got back from a wonderful winter break there (after 10 years!), and I have to say, visiting Puerto Rico is a bucket list must, and here's why:

1. The weather

Sure, the four seasons are pretty, but warm weather year round is blessing you don't realize you want until you're frozen and have fallen face first onto the sidewalk because of black ice.

2. The beaches

Who doesn't love the beach? Personally, I'm not a fan of ocean water, but the sandy, sea-shell filled beaches adorned by palm trees are more than enough to make up for not swimming.

3. The food

I'm pretty sure I gained a couple pounds over winter break because of this, but it was sure worth it. All the seafood stands and warm, savory, homey food are truly one of a kind.

4. The land

Having grown so accustomed to the city life, it was a bit of a shock when I was suddenly surrounded by mountains and vegetation, but I soon fell in love with it. There is something magical about driving amidst palm trees and from great heights.

5. The people

Some Puerto Ricans might have a reputation for being boisterous and maybe even unfriendly, but I will tell you right now, you will never meet more kind, easygoing, and passionate people.

6. The holidays

It's official, Puerto Rico has the longest holiday season in the world (it's a fact). Christmas is a three-month ordeal celebrated with music, food, art, and loved ones. You will never experience holidays quite like these ones.

7. The culture

It's so difficult to put into words just how rich Puerto Rican culture is. From colorful art to grand festivities to a simple day spent with friends and families, there is nothing that can compare.

What are you waiting for? Book your ticket and go!

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
